Before you decide whom to go to for your pregnancy, talk to friends and colleagues. Also do some internet searching. You can find out a lot via Yelp®, other websites, mother’s groups and just word of mouth.
Most obstetrical providers will have a website where you can find out more about the care they provide, the insurance plans they accept, and their location and hours. Some practices are open to an interview so that you may meet them.
If you have a chance to meet them before making the final choice, see if you feel comfortable with them and that you don’t feel rushed. Do ask them about their philosophy of care and their opinion regarding cesareans, episiotomies, forceps and vacuum use during pregnancy, this is important to know before you choose a doctor as you both should be on the same plan of care for your birth.
Also find out how many other providers are in the call group since very often the provider you choose might not be the one delivering you. Often you can go to your chosen Obstetrical provider for your preconception visit.
